Spring is officially here and I couldn’t be more excited! It’s no surprise this is my favorite time of year. Temps are warming up, the grass is getting greener, and I’m currently filling my calendar with patio happy hours and backyard garden parties! It also means it’s time to do a little spring cleaning. Yes, with our households and possessions, but also with ourselves. Read on for my tips on how to give your senses a little refresh- something you might not know you needed.
What do you look at daily? More specifically, what type of content are you consuming? Is it uplifting and inspiring or does it leave you feeling less than? I think it’s safe to say we ALL fall victim to scrolling on our newsfeed way too often. If you’ve never checked the screen time setting on your phone, warning, it’s staggering. But have you ever considered what you are looking at? Are you using social media outlets as a way to stay connected with friends and family? Or are you mindlessly scrolling through random influencer accounts whose sole mission is to sell you things you don’t need? Take a few minutes to scrub through the accounts you follow and remove the ones that don’t influence you in a positive way.
Who are you listening to? Are you contributing to the water cooler gossip at the office or checking in on a coworker when they’re going through a rough patch? Are you a regular participant of the girls’ w(h)ine nights or your bestie’s lead cheerleader as she’s entering a new life phase? They say we’re the sum of the five people we listen to the most and I couldn’t agree more. Take a moment to check in with your closest relationships whether family, friends, or colleagues. Do the people you regularly hang out with make you feel energized, excited, and uplifted? Or drained, negative, and annoyed? If what you’re hearing and experiencing from your relationships isn’t in alignment with how you want to feel, take a step back, reassess, and start spending time with the people who do make you feel good.
Pretty straightforward- what are you regularly fueling your body with? Regardless if you’re aiming to get a little more toned before swimsuit season kicks in, we could all use a little check-in as to what we’re nourishing our bodies with on the daily. Me included! Spring is the prime season for leafy greens, so toss that leftover Easter candy and add some spinach and kale to your next grocery list. Both are currently in season and incredible for you! And bonus points if you can source fresh produce from a local farmers market or grow your own in a kitchen garden. I promise your taste buds will thank you.
Okay, this one might be a little bit of a stretch, but humor me, please. What thoughts are streaming through your head that don’t pass the sniff test? Do you affirm yourself on a regular basis? Or are the majority of your thoughts negative? One of my favorite mantras is “I can do hard things.” Helps fight my imposter syndrome which I write about here. Having negative thoughts on occasion is part of being human and frankly unavoidable. But the key is to crowd out the negativity. By bringing in so much joy, abundance, and positivity, you’ll naturally drown out the negative noise you don’t want to hear because you’ll be so busy filling up on all the goodness that there won’t be any room left for alter ego, negative Nancy. Give it a try. Fill up on the good stuff first!
Finally, what projects are you working on? Could be professional projects, but I’m a sucker for personal growth (hence this post), so let’s stick to the personal side. Are you working on a passion project that lights you up or have you fallen victim to the millennial side hustle culture? Are you volunteering with an organization you truly align with or just checking the box as another resume bullet point? Whatever it may be just be sure it’s coming from a place of fulfillment and not a place of guilt. And if you’re in a season of life where you’re doing good to just get out the door with brushed teeth and personal projects just aren’t feasible, don’t sweat it! As the good book would say, there’s a time and place for everything under the sun.
By taking ownership of what we tell ourselves, what content and information we consume, who we spend time with, and how we curate our daily lives, we ensure we are going about the world intentionally and from a place of goodness. I encourage you to take some time today to ponder these thought starters and get out and soak in all the goodness spring has to offer – and the sunshine!
xx
Just because I love spring so much and couldn’t resist. Here are a few of my favorite spring things:
My Kitchen Garden – Just finished building raised beds at our new house and planted my first round of cool-season vegetables. To say I’m excited is an understatement! Gardening has been such a fulfilling new hobby for me over the past couple of years and something I hope to continue learning about and experimenting with each new season. What I’m most excited for this spring season? Sugar snap peas!
Rhubarb Spoon Cake – IYKYK. My go-to dessert for spring dinner parties and so incredibly easy! The tart yet sweet combo is an unexpected flavor profile your guests are sure to love.
Basket Bag – Invested in this baby a few years ago and essentially take her everywhere with me in spring. I’m anxiously awaiting the first farmers market to open so I can fill her with fresh veggies!
