My Less is More Story

My minimalism journey didn’t start with some catastrophic life moment where I drowned in the overwhelm of all my possessions and a never-ending to-do list. If you know me, you know that I’ve always been the pragmatic, type A. Organization and tidiness have been part of my DNA since I was a little girl. And since discovering my enneagram type, the Perfectionist Type One (IYKYK), it has only further validated my personality and way of being.

While organization has always come easy to me, I haven’t always embraced the abundant mindset of “less is more” until the past couple of years. My introduction to the concept happened where you would least expect it… volleyball practice. Yep, let me explain.

I played volleyball at Pittsburg State University in a small town in southeast Kansas. No, it’s not in Pennsylvania, and yes, I did spell Pittsburg correctly. Go-Rillas! Not only did my coach emphasize teaching and perfecting the fundamentals of the game, but also the fundamentals of life. Be kind, show up early, work hard and over communicate because the people in the back likely can’t hear. But the one thing he taught us that stuck with me most was the concept of less is more. His philosophy was to take less but better reps at practice. Instead of physically wearing your body out by taking 100 mediocre reps, take 20 high-quality reps, conserve your energy and your muscle memory will work in your favor. The first time I heard him say this I was shocked. “You mean to tell me I can take 20 perfect reps and leave practice? Sign me up!” And yes, this really did happen. Not at every practice, but I can count a handful of times we got to go into the gym, warm up, take a few high-quality reps and leave. A college athlete’s dream!

Now fast forward ten plus years to today where I’ve finally realized what my coach was instilling in us. It really had nothing to do with volleyball and everything to do with intentionality. Be intentional with your actions and time by eliminating the mediocre so you can focus on what really matters to you. The bonus? By living intentionally, you get your time back. Ever heard the saying, time is our biggest currency? It’s true! You can’t make more of it and you can’t get it back. But if you can figure out how to live your life being intentional with your time and energy, it will pay dividends you can’t expect – pun intended!

Now it’s your turn. What can you do less of so you can create more time to do the things you love? What can you buy less of so you have more money to spend on the experiences that light you up? That’s my goal with this next chapter of my life. Help YOU discover what you can eliminate from your home and busy schedule, so you can spend your time doing what you actually want to do. Not picking up your kids’ Legos. Not conquering the overwhelming mountains of laundry. And definitely not dusting the baseboards. But hey, you do have to admit there is so much satisfaction in a freshly clean baseboard, ha! I’ll teach you ways to organize your belongings and even better systemize your household and schedule, so it works for you, not against you.

Follow along as I share my tips and tricks that I’ve learned from my personal life as well as what I’ve picked up from others. Consider this your one stop shop for home organization mixed with time management and a dose of pretty aesthetics on the side. I’m excited you’re here. Let’s add the intentional “more” to our lives!
